Welcome to DMV Hero. We built this app to make studying for your permit or license test simple and effective — and we believe your privacy should be just as simple. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain language, what information the App handles, how it's used, and the choices you have. The short version: DMV Hero doesn't ask for your name, your email, or an account. Study progress stays on your device, while trusted providers process limited technical data needed for advertising, diagnostics, and optional Premium purchases.
1. Information We Collect
To provide its features, the App stores the following information locally, only on your own device:
- Your selected state and vehicle/license type
- Your quiz and practice answers, scores, and accuracy
- Bookmarked questions, signs marked as learned, and completed lessons
- Your study streak, XP, level, and earned achievements
- Your in-app settings, such as notification and language preferences
This information is stored using your device's local storage. It stays on your device unless you back it up or move it yourself using your device's own operating system features. The App does not require an account and does not ask for your name, email address, phone number, or other account-registration information. Purchase and advertising providers may process technical identifiers as described below.
2. How We Use Information
The information described above is used to:
- Save your progress, settings, and study history on your own device
- Show you practice content and mock exams relevant to your selected state
- Understand, in aggregate and anonymously, how the App is used so we can improve it
- Respond to feedback or issue reports you choose to submit
3. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your precise location (GPS), contacts, photos, microphone or camera data, or any government ID information. The App has no account creation, sign-in, or cloud sync system. Purchase providers use a pseudonymous app user identifier and store transaction identifiers to verify Premium access and restore purchases. These identifiers are not your DMV or government ID.

4. Third-Party Services We Use
The App uses Google Firebase, Google AdMob, Apple App Store or Google Play billing, and RevenueCat for the functions below. Each provider's own privacy policy also applies:
- Analytics — anonymous, aggregate usage events (e.g. a lesson was opened, a category was practiced) to help us understand which content is useful. No question text, no personal data, no advertising identifier is included.
- Crashlytics — automatic crash and error diagnostics so we can fix bugs. No personal data is included in these reports.
- Cloud Firestore — used only when you choose to use the Report an Issue button on a question or the Feedback section in Settings. That submission includes the question id, your selected state, the app and content version, your device platform, a timestamp, and your optional comment. It never includes your name, email, device id, or precise location.
- Local notifications — optional study reminders scheduled only on your device. Reminder information is not sent to our server.
- Apple App Store or Google Play billing — processes payments and provides transaction status. We do not receive your payment-card details.
- RevenueCat — receives store transaction and purchase-status information, a pseudonymous app user identifier, and limited SDK/device information needed to verify Premium access and restore purchases.
5. Purchases and Premium Access
DMV Hero offers optional Premium access as a monthly auto-renewing subscription or a one-time Lifetime purchase. Apple or Google processes your payment. RevenueCat helps verify purchase status and restore access. Restoring a purchase restores paid access, not locally stored study progress. Premium status is obtained from the purchase service and is separate from quiz scores, study progress, daily lives, rewarded-refill counts, free-exam usage, and unfinished sessions.
Purchase access may be changed or removed after a store refund, revocation, expiration, or billing failure. Access does not automatically transfer between Apple and Google because each store manages purchases separately. See the RevenueCat Privacy Policy for more information about RevenueCat's data practices.
6. Advertising
The App displays advertisements through Google AdMob. AdMob may use an advertising identifier and other technical data to show ads, including personalized ads where permitted, and to measure ad performance. This is governed by Google's own privacy policy. We do not receive or store your name, email, or any other personal identifier through AdMob. You can generally limit ad personalization through your device's operating system settings (for example, "Opt out of Ads Personalization" on Android, or App Tracking Transparency permissions on iOS).
7. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. Because we don't collect personal identifiers, there is little to share in the first place. We may disclose information available to us if required to do so by law or valid legal process, to protect our rights or the safety of our users, to investigate fraud or security issues, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of some or all of our assets — in which case this Policy would continue to apply to that information.
8. Data Retention
Progress and settings stored on your device remain there until you clear them in-app or uninstall the App, which permanently deletes them. Optional feedback or issue reports you submit are retained only as long as reasonably necessary to review and respond to them, and you can request deletion at any time (see Section 13).
9. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for users studying for a driver's permit or license — typically starting around age 14–16 depending on the state — and for parents or guardians assisting them. The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 within the meaning of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the App, please contact us so we can address it.
10. Your Privacy Rights
Because the App does not collect personal identifiers and does not sell personal information, most data-subject rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) or similar state and international privacy laws are naturally satisfied by design. You always have the ability to view, export, or delete your locally stored data by using the in-app options where available, or by uninstalling the App. If you've submitted a feedback or issue report and want it deleted, contact us with the approximate date and details of your submission.
11. International Users
DMV Hero is designed primarily for users studying for a U.S. state driver's license or permit. If you use the App from outside the United States, be aware that any information processed through the third-party services described above may be processed on servers located in the United States or other countries where those providers operate.
12. Data Security
Because your data is stored only on your device, its protection depends largely on your device's own security (passcode, encryption, etc.). Uninstalling the App permanently deletes this locally stored data. We use reasonable technical and organizational measures for anything processed through the third-party services above, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Your Choices
You can clear your saved progress at any time from within the App, where that option is available, or by uninstalling the App entirely, which removes all locally stored data with it. For anything related to a feedback submission or a general privacy question, just reach out — we're happy to help.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the App evolves. Changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continuing to use the App after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
